Welcome to this week’s edition of Twimbit X Insights.

Meta just showed frontier-class AI running entirely in-house. The bigger question is which work truly needs that level of control.

Two machines, one frontier model

Most leaders keep a folder they would never upload to an AI tool, full of deal terms, board papers and customer lists. On October 15, Meta showed one way to bring frontier-class AI to that folder instead

Its new model, Muse Spark Open, runs on two Mac Studios sitting on a desk. In Meta’s tests, it shipped bug fixes to an iOS app, then reviewed raw footage frame by frame and cut the strongest moments into vertical clips. Every step, Meta says, ran entirely on-device.

It is an impressive milestone, and an expensive one. The smaller configuration alone costs over $11,000, the setup needs several machines, and someone has to run and maintain them.

For most companies, owning the hardware will make sense for only a small share of their AI work.

The real hold-up is governance

Companies are already testing models they can run on infrastructure they control. Among those still piloting, 62% say unfinished security and compliance reviews are holding them back, while doubts about model quality barely register.

Companies already running these models in production keep expanding their use of commercial AI too, with 93% reporting growth.

What they are building is a mix, where governance decides which task runs where.

Protection that fits the work

Privacy in AI now works like a dial. At one end sit public tools anyone can sign up for, and at the other sit machines your company owns outright, like Meta’s desktop setup.

The skill lies in matching each kind of work to the right setting. Board papers and deal terms under strict confidentiality may justify hardware of their own today, while account research, proposals and internal knowledge make up the wide middle.

For that middle, a secure, governed workspace with clear access controls already does the job. Owning frontier hardware will spread as prices fall, and the companies that have already sorted their work will know exactly what to move first.

Which of your folders belongs at the far end of that dial?
